About Us Page

The Old Granary Studio is a unique concert hall set in a restored 18th century barn in the heart of rural South Norfolk near the Waveney Valley town of Beccles. This beautiful venue has been described, acoustically, as a mini Snape Maltings and its informal and intimate atmosphere appeals to audiences and artists alike.

Since its foundation in 2001, The Old Granary has hosted many world-class musicians including members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Piers Lane, Tasmin Little, the Pro Arte Quartet, Kathryn Stott, Melvyn Tan and jazz artists such as Julian Joseph, Martin Taylor, Jacqui Dankworth and Jack Gibbons.

Such is the clarity of the sound produced at this rural concert venue, it is also in high demand as a recording studio and has been used by Pascal Roge, Adrian Brendel & Tim Horton and Leslie Howard.

The Friends of The Old Granary Studio Concerts Trust was formed in 2004 to enable The Old Granary to expand the scope and types of classical performances for the benefit of all music lovers in the area. Young, aspiring musicians taking part in Masterclasses are also supported by The Trust.

The money raised by the Friends, through annual subscriptions, donations and fund-raising events, is used in supporting artists' fees for those classical concerts which would otherwise be unaffordable for the general public.

The Friends Trust was granted Registered Charity status in November 2005 and currently has over 140 subscribers.

Friends are provided with advance notice of the coming season's concert series before the general to enable them to book early for popular events. Several Friends-only events are also held each year, including a Summer Gala and the hugely popular Christmas Concert.

Friends are also able to meet the artists after concerts and possibly purchase their CD's.
